Days 1 & 2 in AK: Glen Alps & Portage Glacier & more

Just arrived...first stop at our wonderful host's house to say hello and then off to check out Glen Alps (part of the Chugach State Park). Do you see the mountain they call Flattop???

Day 2:

First stop at Kaladi Brothers Coffee followed by a drive South....

Next stop: Girdwood. Super cute little ski resort town....with this cool rock shop (Kobuk Valley Jade Co.). See the saw and the giant piece of rock? That's a huge chunk of jade!

Welcome to Portage Glacier. Well, you can't really see the glacier anymore but there's the lake with icebergs from the glacier (plus a visitor's center) to look at. And don't forget Treasure Hunting. That means looking for interesting rocks (Annika's current favorite hobby).

We saw a lot of this....during our touring around of AK.

Quick lunch at Moose's Tooth. Fortunately they still have awesome pizza and beer! Do you know why it's called Moose's Tooth?

Beautiful flower display outside the Anchorage PAC. Every year Anchorage goes nuts with flower displays downtown.
Never ever get this close to a real moose but this stuff one seems awfully friendly! And it could be yours for only $8000. Yikes. That's too many zeros for my taste (and budget).
