Alaska Trip: Exit Glacier & Drive to Homer

Now...what would you do after a NINE hour boat tour of Kenai Fjords? Eat dinner and go to bed you say? Hey! That does sound responsible! But that's not what we did....okay...we did eat dinner at our favorite restaurant in Seward. Ray's Waterfront. It makes us giggle because we think of it as UNCLE Ray's Waterfront (no, Uncle Ray isn't affliated with this restaurant...it just the way my silly mind works). Anyhoo....moving on.... We walked up to Exit Glacier after a lovely meal.

It felt great to stretch out our legs! Believe me we were all exhausted by the time bedtime hit!

Exit Glacier is located just a few miles outside of Seward. It's amazing that you can easily walk up to this glacier. A glacier is kind of like a river of ice. It does move and flow although it appears stagnant. And yes it really does change....I visited this glacier about 16 years ago and it has changed a LOT since.

Check out the scratches on the rocks left by the glacier!

The Moose is Loose: coffee shop/bakery extraordinaire is located in Soldotna. They seriously have awesome baked goods and the coolest t-shirts.

On the way to Homer we stopped and ran out to the edge of the bluff...fortunately slowing down enough to realize that it's a L-O-N-G way down (had we not stopped at the edge). We had some gorgeous views of Iliamna and Mt. Redoubt. Don't ask me which is which because I can never remember! Oh and I should point that both of these are volcanoes and Redoubt is rather an active or semi-active one.

The fireweed was still in full bloom here.... as opposed to Anchorage where it was mostly finished blooming.

Being able to get up that close to a glacier, how cool is that? No pun intended!

Oh, WOW. Those pictures near the end of the post, with the flowers and the bluff and the water below. I haven't been to that place, haven't seen a part of Alaska that looks that way. It's so beautiful! Once again, GREAT pictures.
