It's a SNOW day!

We had ourselves an old fashioned snow day- the kind of day where you literally CAN'T go anywhere.

All because a blustery blizzard blessed us with more snow and some mighty wind.

Joy.  More snow. Really.  I'm so excited.  Can't you tell?

It's hard to tell how much snow actually fell as it was hard-packed and wind-blown by the time we got up in the morning.  Mark measured 9" but it certainly could be more.

Can you tell where the front porch ends and the sidewalk begins?

 Sweet Annika went up to Mark's stranded car to retrieve his Bluetooth headset...some of the snow wasn't so deep but some of the snow drifts were quite deep!

 Here's a little bit of what we did to pass the time:: homeschool.  Lots of worksheets, craft projects, outside play time, shoveling-the-deck-until-your-back-passes-out time, and some Scooby Doo time (and reading).  The girls were anything but bored.

Ah yes...

Mark drove home the night the blizzard started.  He had a terrible time seeing the road and he said the snow drifts were quite high (and difficult to see).  He managed to drive ALMOST all the way home- he said he very nearly got stuck in several other places but he REALLY got stuck in our driveway.  Just.couldn't.go.  So there the Prius sat overnight.

 Getting it unstuck was a "fun" challenge.

 Snow drifts around the car.  Thankfully not as bad as some of the photos I've seen from other parts of the country!

 Our snow drift was knee deep.  We've got a lot protection from the trees so we usually don't end up seeing this much snow drifting.  Mocha is helping.  Can't you tell?   Don't you need a stick?  No???

 Snow tucked up on the windows.  Thankfully I remembered to put out birdseed out for the birds before the blizzard hit.

By early afternoon the sun was shining...ah sunshine!  However, the temperatures are taking a nose-dive along with a nifty wind chill.  What does that translate for us?  We're going to have a two-hour delay tomorrow for school.  And that means no school for the preschool crowd (poor Ava will be devastated!).  It means more homeschooling for this crowd.  ;-)

We're extremely lucky- we have heat, electricity and plenty of food.

ETA- We're having a 2nd snow day today!  More of the same activities as yesterday with one exception- it's too cold to go out and play.
