Cookies! and more
This morning Ava and I whipped up a batch of Vanille Kipferl (using the recipe in the "Joy of Cooking"). They're not a huge pain to make with the right tools (ie. the stand mixer!).
I gave Ava a small piece of the dough to play with and she kept wanting to make a milk snake. She said over and over that milk snakes have holes in them (that's what she used her kid safe knife for- to make holes). Okay kiddo- whatever you say!
Well the school had an early release today. They're predicting 6"+ of snow for tonight and tomorrow. So far I haven't seen anything! That also meant that all activities were canceled tonight. The Annual Gingerbread House Decorating Event through Family Connections was supposed to be tonight. bummer!
On the bright side, I had bought a gingerbread house decorating kit at Trader Joe's. The girls and I had fun putting it together and they had LOTS of fun decorating!
After decorating the house we played a few rounds of the Goodnight Moon game (we're borrowing it from Family Connections' lending library). That's a nice game (all about matching) that everyone can play.
Today I also downloaded the Charles Hammer -A Classical Guitar Christmas on iTunes. I was in the mood for simple guitar music. I find classical guitar music soothing. I wish I had more of it! (and dang it...it's just too darn easy to buy! buy! buy! on iTunes.
Anyway...here are some photos from today.
Girlies working on decorating the gingerbread house. I *heart* the Trader Joe's kit.
Look at those cute sugar people and dog! They came with the kit.
The Goodnight Moon Game. Goodnight Moon was the first book Annika ever got (it came from the hospital) and it has to be one of my favorite books.

It'll be interesting to see if we get as much snow as they predicted. Either we'll get dumped on (because Mark is away) OR we won't get an inch. I'm hoping for something in between- I love a fresh blanket of white snow covering the countryside.

I really don't understand the holes in the milk snakes. Weird to be two I guess...
It looks like a lot of fun though, and I really HOPE there are some of those cookies left when I get back!!!
I love the gingerbread house, it looks like you had fun making it. I made one with Hans, but he has decided he only likes the candy not the gingerbread.
Love the holiday header!

I love the gingerbread house it is great!
so....are you sending us any of these delightful treats? ;)
You are so brave to let the girls do that, I hate the mess in my kitchen, and even when I try to relax and let the kids do everything, I still get a little twitchy about all of the lopsided designing they do!
Your bird blog header is so cute, did you draw that? Thanks for commenting on my blog!
That house turned out great!!
