Our "Little" Weekend Excursion- Part Zwei

I'm sure you can probably anticipate the next photo after a long day playing at the beach......

NAPTIME!

We decided not to disturb them and try to get them into our tent without waking them up so we rolled down all the windows and let them nap (at our campsite). Mark and I planned our next family excursions during that time.

Since we had a little time to kill before going on our boat tour of the islands we grabbed some very yummy ice cream at The Candy Shoppe. Naturally, both Annika and Ava got cotton candy flavored ice cream (how could they not?). I got a coconut flavored and Mark got his one-and-only ice cream flavor: cookies and cream.

Annika on street corner (in the shade!) enjoying her cotton candy ice cream.
Ava digging into her cotton candy ice cream.

We walked around the town for a little bit while waiting for the boat ride to start- We picked up sandwiches for dinner at the Wild by Nature Market, bought smoked local white-fish, bought fresh raspberries from a local street vendor and let the girls play at a local children's park.
I'll admit that the boat ride was a little long for little kids but it was neat to view the islands and listen to the captain regale us with interesting stories about the area. The Apostle Islands have a high concentration of black bears. Apparently on one island (I think it was Montigue Island) some campers opened a can Spam and left it sitting out. A black bear got into it and thus turned into a "Spam enraged" bear. No one is allowed on to the island until the "Spam enraged" bear settles down (I think the bear should set his standards a little higher... I mean...ugh! I would never become enraged over a can of Spam...or maybe he was mad that the campers didn't have some higher quality "meat product").

Our boat -The Island Princess (I'm soooo glad that our three-hour boat ride didn't turn into a Gilligan's Island tour!). Are you getting sea sick just looking at this photo? Good! (hee hee hee)

Here is the ENTIRE reason I wanted to do the boat tour.....

SEA CAVES!

and more sea caves

These sea caves were on Devil's Island. I just can't wait to do a kayaking trip out to these sea caves.Pretty sunset on Lake Superior.

The following morning we stuffed ourselves -again- at The Egg Toss Bakery Cafe.

Ava stuffing her mouth with local red raspberries.Just Happy Annika!

After breakfast we had one last HURRAH before leaving the area- we went red raspberry picking!

We drove around and found this absolutely to-die-for fruit farm called Blue Vista Farm. I still can't believe how gorgeous the location was- a beautiful old barn that had been restored which was surrounded by flower gardens and fruit plantings with a gorgeous view of the bay. We could have also picked blueberries but we decided not to since we'll be picking those next weekend in Michigan (gotta love Michigan blueberries!).

Blue Vista Farm- barn and flower gardens.

Red raspberry field! Ava picking raspberries- some of them actually made it into the box unsquished.Annika is a berry picking pro. Both girls wanted to help Daddy fill his tray. Poor Mommy had to pick all by herself.

The girls in a field of bee balm (Monarda). Hummingbirds love this flower! I need to remember that and plant lots of it at home.

"Mommy- can you please stop taking photos"? AnnikaAva caught in a cute pose.Another cute Ava pose. Wow. Two cute poses of Ava in a row! She usually makes weird faces whenever I have the camera out.Mark and Ava examining an unusual flower. I think it's called Echinops.

Now it's time to say good bye; farewell. We'll visit you again Bayfield. Hopefully very soon!
