Devils Tower::Day 3

This is Devils Tower:

Rafiqu & Annika

Father & Son walking hand in hand (Ulz & Rafiqu).

On our third morning we blasted out of Custer and headed to Devils Tower. I always thought it was Devil's Tower not Devils Tower but apparently I've been wrong all this time!  It was supposed to have been Devil's Tower but due to some clerical error many years ago that never got changed it stayed Devils Tower.

You can see Devils Tower way off in the distance if you're traveling on I-90...it's an impressive sight as it really sticks out among the gently rolling hills of northeastern Wyoming.

Now, if you make a trip to Devils Tower be aware that the park rangers seem to be slightly edgy and ready to hand you at ticket...for parking wrong, breathing, or talking.  Forget the fact that you just paid an entrance fee and parking is limited.  Just don't mess with the rangers!  (and no, we didn't get a ticket but we did encounter some hostility from a couple of park rangers...you've been warned!)

We did the easy walk around the giant, unusual rock.  I never realized that it was tear-dropped shape before (always thought it was round).  We did see a handful of rock climbers going up.

After our stop at Devils Tower with picnic lunch and our walk we weaved our way through the back roads of Wyoming to Yellowstone National Park.  This takes us to (what I think) is the saddest part of our trip.  Annika developed some major tummy troubles throughout the day and by the end she was vomiting.  Poor thing!  She did try to give us fair warning for when she was going to be sick.

We got to Yellowstone very late at night (Wyoming is rather a large state!).  Fortunately we got our tent mostly set up before it started to rain.  And boy, did it rain!  All night long!  And poor Annika kept vomiting all night long.

On to Day 4....

Sounds like sooo much fun! Just a thought on Annika's tummy upset.... when I was a child and would get excited (about anything, really) I would throw up.... I threw up most of the way to Savannah on a trip with our Girl Scout troop. Could this be part of Miss Girl's problem? Love the pics! I can't help but think of "Close Encounters" when I see Devils Tower! Ha!

No, I don't think she threw up due to excitement....we've been to lots of super cool places and this is the first time she's ever been sick while traveling. I think she just got a stomach bug (and very fortunately nobody else traveling in our little group got it!).
