Hunting for Pearls....

We're going on a Pearl Hunt.
Gonna find us a Big One!

Here's a fun shop we found while surveying the damage done by the tsunami on Ali'i Drive....it's called The Pearl Factory.
Here's the Spiel...for $14.95 you get to pick out an oyster from the bucket and the ladies in the shop crack it open (making a big, fun deal out of it) and you get to keep the pearl that's inside.  All the oysters are guaranteed to have pearls in them.

You just don't know what color or size you're going to get!

Ava was up first....

The nice lady pried open the oyster....
and Voila!  A blue pearl (I think that's what the shop lady said it was...certainly a silver color).

Up next:
Annika carefully picking out her oyster.  Not just any would do!  She tried finding the biggest one in the bucket (not that it necessarily translates to a bigger pearl but I can understand her reasoning).
Which one?  Which one?  So hard to choose!
Even cousin Lily got to do this fun little activity! (Lily=hat with green band)
Annika's pearl turned out to be a pink one...

Here's crossing my fingers, knocking on wood and jumping up and down ten times hoping for good luck that this video clip works.  It shows how we welcomed our pearls.  :-)
The ladies in the shop mounted our pearls on to a necklace pendant in the shape of a whale's tail.  Apparently whale tails mean good luck.  Here's hoping that they do!

The video is great! Woohoo! What an experience, pearl picking! The girls will treasure those pendants always!
