Wash Away that Dirt! Soap Giveaway
This is my first giveaway! Just in time for the Holidays!
Here's the spiel- I've been making cold process soap for almost ten years now but I still haven't gotten the courage to sell it. I only use vegetable oils in my soap (no animal fats). Most of my soaps contain a mixture of luxurious oils such as shea butter, cocoa butter, macadamia butter, avocado butter and mango butter to name a few. I lightly scent my soaps (I'm not fond of stinky stuff) with mostly essential oils ...although I also use fragrance oils.
What I want from you is HONEST input on whether or not you would actually buy handmade soap (like the bars I'm giving away) and what you'd be willing to pay for a bar of soap. It's okay if you're brutally honest (but in a kind way, okay?).
What am I giving away? These....
I'm going to let five random winners pick one hand-cut bar of soap from the following choices:
- Oma's Lavender Patch- contains lavender essential oils and lavender flowers from my mom's garden
- Don't Eat Me Chocolate Soap- contains chocolate fragrance oil and unsweetened chocolate
- Symphony of Smells Soap- made with beer (instead of water) and is scented with patchouli, lavender, ylang ylang, bourbon geranium and orange essential oils
Please let me know if you have any allergy issues (I can provide an ingredient list if necessary).
Please leave me a comment in this post telling me whether you would or would not buy handmade, hand-cut soap and what you'd realistically pay for it. I'd also love to hear what fragrances you're especially fond of. I'm always looking for new smells! I'll pick the five random winners on Saturday November 22, 2008. Please make sure you leave me some way of contacting you! I will then contact the winners and let them choose which bar they'd like.

They all sound so wonderful. I have no idea though what to charge. I don't shop much:( Sorry, I can't help you there.
Hey, I stumbled upon here from Margaret's blog... I know that at the historic site I work at sells hand-made soap for $4.75. I know someone that would love the beer one!
How Cool! I would certainly be interested and would love to link your website (or blog?) to my hairbow site! I also love the names! The beer one cracks me up! My Michael uses some soap Before he goes deer hunting. I know Mark would love that! Yeah for fun soap! Sign me up! Could you do smaller bars so we could do a sampler pack? That would be fun for teachers gifts! The labels are so groovy.
I also wandered in from looking at little Miles. I think the soaps are lovely. I wish I had known you been making soaps, Erik and I just cleaned out the garage and had a yard sale. I sold all my soap molds, and the loaf molds too. There are a bunch of sites for handmade soaps and they seem to go for $3-$5 depending on the weight and wrappings. I sell a lot of crafts on http://www.etsy.com I didn't notice any soap makers on that so you might want to check it out. You could corner the market!

Thanks for visiting my blog. The hat is crochet. I have yet to learn knitting so for now I stick by my old standby. For the napkins I used tracing paper and a print out of a stamp I found online.
The soaps are lovely. I would pay between $3-$5 for a handmade soap.
Squeal! I remember when you posted about the soaps a few weeks back! They look fabulous and the scents and descriptions are suprem-o! I know I live in a more expensive part of the country because people here would jump at $5 soap! I have paid close to $10 for a bar like yours. Would pricing also depend on how much the ingredients cost? Maybe a certain oil is more expensive than another? Or beer more expensive than water? :)
I say go for it and sell your soap!!!! BTW, if I win I just might not use it but display it instead!!! :)
Please enter me for your giveaway! I'd love to win your soaps!
I think, at least, $5 for a bar for homemade soap is a reasonable price, perhaps a bit more. My favorite scents are lavender and vanilla/brown sugar.
Have a great weekend!
Hey...I came across your blog a couple of months ago and I am addicted! I love to buy bath products. I think $5 a bar is reasonable. Some of my favorite scents are honeysuckle and sweet pea. I also think that a baby soap that smelled like baby powder would be a good idea:)
Oh this is awesome! I am doing my first giveaway right now too! :) How fun! I hope you will come check mine out as well!
Have a great weekend!!
Hey, Astrid. I'm Toni Bailey. You can ask your husband who I am...And I can tell you lots of fun stuff about when he was a kid...hee hee...
I want soap! I Love soap! Put me on your "free" list, but then lemme know WHEN you begin to actually market it! I'd love to buy some. Five dollars seems good, including shipping costs...I hope you make a million dollars!!
xoxoxo Toni Bailey
YEA!!! A giveaway AND I can answer your question here. Like most of my projects, I create around here late at night, after the phone stops ringing and the doorbell stops chiming. Thus, all the stores are closed. The closest thing I had around the house that would work, was the model airplane paint. Next time, I would choose a High gloss silver from the craft store.
I buy hand made soaps at our local once a week street fair. They cost $5. I always give them for gifts.. and for my own use... I like a light citrus smell... very refreshing early in the morning... my skin tends to be dry so I like a fatty soap... hope this helps ... I am doing my first giveaway also ... good luck.. Cheers,
Diane
I love handmade soap. And I would definitely buy it. And your scents sound fantastic!
In a normal economy I would agree with the $5.00 a bar price. And I think that you would make sales at that price even now.
But since I'm watching my expenses much more closely right now that would feel like a bit of a luxury. What if you priced them at $5 each or 3 for $10 or something like that.
Oh foo! That deleted comment was me.
The chocolate one sounds really good! your ingredients sound wonderful too. I tend to agree with Kimba, $5.00 for one or $10 for 3. Also if you can keep the shipping low, you would sell more:) Your soaps would make great gifts too! I hope I win. I would want the chocolate one for sure!
I stumbled here from SITS! I love soaps. Probably because I'm sort of obsessive about washing my hands... that's suppose to be a good thing right?
I have seen similiar type products sold for between $5-10 a bar depending on size and packaging. :)
Yay for a give away!
THis stuff sells for about $5 a bar at a local organics shop here. I am especially fond of anything citrus smelling. Thanks for the giveaway and good luck to all!
Please, random number generator choose me!!
What a great giveaway, the last one sounds super yummy to me.
Yes, I would purchase handmade soaps.
And I have to agree with PP - around $5 at the max.
Please enter me for your giveaway! I'd love to win!

I think that $4 to $5 a bar is reasonable. I think citrus scents are invigorating. :)
I am probably too late, but thought I'd give my two cents: I would pay $4-5 for a bar, and my favourite scent would have to be oatmeal!
Great give-away!
Linda
I know the giveaway date is past, but thought I'd tell you rosemary/olive oil is a favorite fragrance of mine. I saw some lotion at a little kiosk in our grocery store and it smelled yummy! Also, I think the between $3 and $5 is something I'd pay for handmade soap. Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
